POLYCARBONATE ASIA-PACIFIC

Polycarbonate Asia-Pacific

PC makers have struggled with poor margins since November 2021, prompting some to operate their plants below optimal levels

Nonetheless, the pressure on sellers is expected to persist as slow derivative demand for polycarbonates (PC) coupled with a surge in COVID-19 infections could result in an earlier-than-expected Lunar New Year lull as workers may return to their hometowns for the festive period sooner than they would typically.

Some hope that demand for PC will pick up after the Lunar New Year, but others were less optimistic because of weak macroeconomic environment which is weighing on China’s housing and consumer demand.

It will take time for China’s housing demand to pick up as the sector has been mired in crisis for an extended period of time.

PC is dependent on sectors such as construction, automotive and electronics for support.
